Given the uniquely historical and natural beauty of our magnificent Estate, here at Carberry, we have every good reason to be deeply mindful of and committed to sustainable business and energy practices.
So, over the last five years, it has been our privilege to invest in multiple areas that have significantly reduced our C02 emmissions and minimised our carbon footprint. As a result, we are enormously proud to have been awarded a prestigious Green Tourism award by Scotland’s national tourism board.
Initiatives have included:
- Changing over 1250 high energy lightbulbs to low energy LED alternatives throughout the Mansion House, our luxury Estate Houses and across all external areas of our entire Estate.
- The installation of a state-of-the-art plate heat exchanger, to heat all hot water with considerably less energy usage required.
- The removal and replacement of two inefficient oil-fired hot water cylinders, with a high-efficiency mains pressurised cylinder, linked to the new plate heat exchanger system.
- A significant reduction in laundry detergent and water usage, by removing the automatic renewal of guest towels on a daily basis during multi-night stays – unless specifically requested by guests.
- A drop in yearly single glass bottle usage of over 14,800 units.
- A yearly drop in single-use toiletry plastics by over 23,200 units.
- Investment in new, higher energy-efficient kitchen equipment, to reduce electricity usage.
- A determined focus to buy from local suppliers. We invest over £1million per annum into the local supply chain and want local businesses to be the main beneficiaries – not just to support them and help them grow, but to minimise transportation emissions as well.
- Newly designed printed materials in all suites and bedrooms, encouraging guests to switch off lamps and lights when not in rooms.
- Seasonal harvesting of natural timber fallage across our Estate as the only source of firewood for all of our log fires and wood burners.
- A suite of in-house signage for all staff to follow, based on adhering to wise and sensible energy and resource usage protocols.
