The Bowes Lyon Suite

One of our most charming suites, the Bowes Lyon Suite takes its name from the late Queen Mother’s family. It sits adjacent to the former Day Nursery, where Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret are said to have played while holidaying at Carberry Tower as children.

Generously furnished with twin aspect views and more than 650 ft² of space, the suite enjoys a particularly private setting overlooking the original castle section of the Mansion House, parts of which date back to 1480.

History surrounds you here. From the suite you can see the historic Carberry bell set within the castle’s original castellations. In years past it was rung to communicate messages to estate workers and today it is still occasionally sounded by the family who own Carberry Tower to mark moments of celebration.

You may also glimpse the fire basket on the western corner of the castle ramparts, once used as a warning beacon and more recently lit as part of the National Beacon celebrations to mark the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The suite also features a spacious en suite bathroom with a separate shower and a double ended bath, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the estate or nearby Edinburgh.

For your added comfort, the bathroom is stocked with luxurious Miller Harris products, alongside plush bathrobes and spa slippers. Guests can also enjoy a Zenius Nespresso coffee machine with a selection of pods and teas.

The Strathmore Suite

The Strathmore Suite enjoys an exceptional setting within the original castle at Carberry Tower, parts of which date back to 1480.

Beautifully furnished and rich in character, the suite offers captivating views across the western parkland and along the majestic 400 yard lime tree avenue. This remarkable ‘flanged’ avenue, planted in the 1850s, is an extremely rare surviving example within the British Isles and creates a truly memorable outlook from the suite.

With more than 650 ft² of space, the Strathmore Suite combines historic charm with modern comfort. From the richly carved four poster bed and elegant marble lamps to the plush furnishings throughout, every detail has been thoughtfully considered. The spacious en suite bathroom features a separate shower and a double ended bath, perfect for long, relaxing soaks.

For added comfort, the bathroom is stocked with luxurious Miller Harris products, alongside soft bathrobes and spa slippers. Guests can also enjoy a Zenius Nespresso coffee machine with a selection of pods and teas.

The Lothian Suite

The Lothian Suite at Carberry Tower Mansion House is renowned for its royal connections, having been the suite where Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II often stayed during visits to the estate in her childhood and later with her husband, Prince Philip.

With beautiful twin aspect views across the estate parkland and around 600 ft² of space, the Lothian Suite is one of the most charming and distinctive suites within the Mansion House.

Guests can enjoy views across the south lawns while seated at the very dressing table once used by Her Majesty, or relax on the comfortable sofa with a good book from the nearby library. Wherever you choose to spend your time, the suite offers a peaceful and welcoming retreat within the historic surroundings of Carberry Tower.

The Princess Margaret Suite

With exceptional views across the beautiful Italian fountain garden, the Princess Margaret Suite is a wonderfully elegant and sophisticated retreat within the Mansion House. The garden itself was a wedding gift from the late Queen Mother to her sister, who once lived at Carberry Tower, adding a further layer of history to this remarkable setting.

Richly furnished and spanning more than 625 ft², the suite features glittering chandeliers, original marble fireplaces and traditional working shutters. Soft saddle leather chaises and a comfortable sofa create a relaxed living space, while the charming turret dining area provides a unique and intimate place to sit and enjoy the views.

From the dining turret you can look east across the estate to the ancient Cedar of Lebanon, which stands proudly beside the impressive Sequoia Avenue. Planted with saplings brought back from Oregon in 1870, this remarkable avenue forms one of the estate’s most striking features. To the south lawns, the magnificent imperial weeping beech, planted around 1745, offers another unforgettable sight.
